Crop the flag for stronger matches
A flag photographed on a building, ship, battlefield display or collection table may occupy only a small part of the image. Cropping removes unrelated visual information and often makes the flag design much more important to the comparison.
Ranked matches are research leads
The closest visual match is not automatically the correct identification. Check several candidates, compare proportions and symbols, and follow the source link where available. For difficult material, a second search with a tighter crop can be more useful than accepting the first result.

Photo search questions
Does the photo need to be straight and flat?
No, but strong folds, perspective, shadows and background clutter can reduce match quality. Cropping closely around the flag is often the most useful first correction.
Can I search a flag from a screenshot?
Yes. A screenshot can be searched like a photograph as long as the flag is visible at a useful size.
Why should I check more than the first result?
Similar flags can share colours, symbols and layouts. Reviewing several high-ranking candidates helps distinguish a true identification from a merely similar design.
